Remember how Control and Death Stranding were going head-to-head with their number of nominations for the 23rd annual DICE awards, including the coveted Game of the Year? Turns out that neither one snagged it. Instead, that honour went to… Untitled Goose Game?
Yes, House House’s indie darling beat out Death Stranding, Control, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds to earn it. The kicker? The goose itself beat out Cliff Unger and Sam Porter Bridges from Death Stranding, Jesse Faden from Control, and Greeze from Jedi: Fallen Order to win the Outstanding Achievement in Character award, too!
That being said, Control did walk away with four awards, as it won Action Game of the Year and the Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Game Direction and Music Composition awards. Meanwhile, Death Stranding earned two awards, winning Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design and Outstanding Technical Achievement. Disco Elysium earned Outstanding Achievement in Story, while Outstanding Achievement in Animation went to Luigi’s Mansion 3. Fighting Game of the Year went to Mortal Kombat 11, and The Outer Worlds earned RPG of the Year.
