The final episode of Protocol Games’ Song of Horror has been out for a bit, and for those who are suckers for punishment, the devs have announced that the game has received an update that will definitely cater to the masochists in the crowd.
For starters, the new difficulty level, known as H.P. Lovecraft, has cranked up the difficulty of all five Hauntings, and will appear slightly more frequently than in the previously-highest difficulty level. Lesser events will also tend to be more “malignant” than before. H.P. Lovecraft will unlock after completing the game, and can be switched out at any time.
Do note that for those who are sticklers for achievements, swapping out the difficulty level will not allow you to get the new achievement for completing the game on H.P. Lovecraft.
Also included in the update is the ability to play as Erica Färber in Episode 5. In order to unlock Erica, she will have to be present in Episode 4, and survive the ordeal.
Both of these additions are not retroactive: You’ll have to watch the final cutscene again in order to unlock the new difficulty level, and you’ll have to complete Episode 4 again.
Lastly, the team also added several instances of random paranormal activity to Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital, as well as fixed a few lingering issues. Song of Horror is currently 25% off during the Steam Summer Sale, so be sure to take advantage of it. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are currently in development.
